Norman Sharpless is an Oncologist and Professor of Medicine, Genetics and Toxicology at University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Sharpless conducts research focused on tumor suppression and the stem cell theory of aging and played a critical role in the discovery of a gene which links lifespan and cancer. He believes that aging is not a completely random process but in part caused by an active switching off of self renewing cells that normally replenish the body's tissues.
