The Rightful Place celebrates an historical event and an historic opportunity.
The historical event is the foundation 350 years ago (in November 1660) of the Royal Society of London, the world's oldest scientific academy in continuous existence.
The historic opportunity is the realization of the pledge by President Obama in his Inaugural Address on January 20, 2009 that: "We will restore science to its rightful place...."
