  1. The video I am watching is stalling or taking a long time to load.  What can I do?

The Science Network is working to optimize video experience for as many users as it can, but it is an ongoing process.  Since mid-2010, we have started hosting new videos through Amazon Web Services but some of our older videos remain in slower less optimized places.  Occasionally, videos have errors, so please let us know if you are experiencing issues with a particular video.

Smooth video viewing on TSN does require a broadband internet connection. If you have a broadband connection and are experiencing choppy playback, try the following suggestions:

    • You may be experiencing inconsistant video download speeds.  Pause the video and let the buffer fill up for a few minutes and see if that helps.
    • If you are watching over a wireless connection, try moving closer to your wireless router or plugging into a wired connection.
    • Check if you are using other bandwidth intensive programs (e.g. downloading files, internet phone services).  You may need to pause these programs while you watch the videos.
    • If you are sharing a wireless connection, check that those sharing it with you aren't  using bandwidth intensive programs.
    • Older videos play slowly outside of the United States.
  2. (Several of these explanations are rewritten from Hulu's Help section - thank you Hulu for clear information.)

  3. Do you have an RSS feed?

We do!  TSN has an RSS feed on every search and content page.  Look for the RSS symbol on pages you are interested in subscribing to.  If you'd like to subscribe to the whole site, click here.

  4. Can I follow you on Twitter or Facebook?
  5. TSN has both Twitter and Facebook accounts.  They can be followed here:

    Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/thesciencenetwork

    Twitter: http://twitter.com/sciencenetwork

  6. Would it be possible for you to caption your videos?

At TSN, we would like our videos to be as accessible as possible but transcription and captioning are expensive for a small non-profit. We do provide transcripts for as many of our videos as possible and are looking for in making it clearer which videos have transcripts.

  7. How do I embed your videos on my site?

All the videos on The Science Network are available for embed. To get the embed code, click "menu" in the video player and then click the "embed" tab. Copy the embed code and paste it onto your site in the appropriate place.
